Update September 16, 2019

Welcome Back!!!

We've had a great start to our year and I look forward to getting to know your children and learning with them each day.

Zippered Pouches and Agendas--Each day we will write a sentence in our agenda at the end of the day to send home reminders or remind us what we learned during the day. Please make sure to check the zippered pouch each day and sign the agenda each day.  All homework, office notes, etc. will be in the zippered pouch. Students should carry their zippered pouch back and forth to school each day.

Reading Logs--Reading Logs will go home next Monday to be returned on Sept. 30 to be checked.  Please log the reading your child does on the form provided.  100 minutes/week is our goal.

Canteen Cards--Cards can be purchased from the office for $10.  The canteen has opened this week.

Rally Sunday--Thank you to those families who joined us for Rally Sunday.

Lower Fort Garry Field Trip
Thank you so much to our drivers/supervisors for coming with us!!  It was a beautiful day and everyone learned a lot and enjoyed themselves.

LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL SCHEDULE
Monday, June 24 - Fun in the Sun, 1:00-2:00 - send a sunhat, sunscreen and bring a change of clothes
Tuesday, June 25 - Talent Show, 1:00-2:00 - children need to sign up beforehand
Wednesday, June 26 - Grade 8 Graduation, 1:00
Thursday, June 27 - Kindergarten Graduation, 9:00
                                  - Awards ceremony, 10:30
                                  - End-of-year Classroom Clean-up and Parties
                                  - Report cards are sent home
Friday, June 28 - No School - Administration Day

END-OF-YEAR PARTY TREATS
We will be having an end-of-the-year class party on the last day of school - Thursday, June 27.  I haven't assigned any families to bring treats for this day. Anyone who would like to send in some treats for our party, is welcome to send something in to school that day.  Please email me and let me know.  Thanks for your help.

Read-a-thon/Book Fair 
Envelopes are due by Friday, May 31.  Scholastic Book Fair begins with a viewing June 3.  The Book Fair will be open for purchases at lunch and after school all week.  It will also be open before and after the Spring Concert on Wednesday.
                  
SPRING CONCERT--Wednesday, June 5
Next week is our annual Spring Concert.  Please have your child here at the school at 6:00.  Grade 2s will meet in Ms. Malkoske's classroom and the Grade 3s will meet in the Art Room.  The students will be performing outside so please bring lawn chairs and/or blankets. Don't forget your child's violin!  If your child will not be able to attend this event, please let Mr. B and Ms. Malkoske know ahead of time.  There will be an art display inside the school as well as the We Care Club will be selling frozen treats that night to raise money.

SUMMER WEATHER
Please put sunscreen on your child in the morning before school.  Your child should have a water bottle for the classroom at all times.  Please send a sun hat and a change of clothes to school as well.  The summer weather is finally here!

FIELD TRIP
We will be going on our final field trip to Lower Fort Garry on Monday, June 17.  This will be an all day trip and they will need to bring a lunch along.  We will also need parent drivers for this trip.  I will be sending more information and the permission form home soon.

CONFERENCES
Thank you all for coming out to our student-led conferences last week.  The students were excited to show their portfolios to you and share what they have learned this term.

COUNTRY WEEK
This week we are "travelling" to China for country week.  Every afternoon, the students will be travelling to another classroom to experience different activities with different teachers, such as -
Animals, Math, Culture, Art, Sports, Food and Folktales.  We are also having some Chinese dancers visiting the school on Wednesday morning where they will perform and teach us some dances.

A belated thank you to the families who brought snack for our Valentine's Day party.  We enjoyed our sweet, yummy snacks!

I LOVE TO READ MONTH
Dress - Up Days
February 13 - WEAR BLUE AND GOLD

Nic Demski--special guest reader from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers is coming to read to our school.
February 20 - Dress as a STORYBOOK CHARACTER (bring the book if you can)
February 27 - WEAR PINK (or red) - This is the Day of Pink - Bullying and Respect for Everyone.
We also have other special guest readers visiting during this special month.  If you would like to come and read to our class, please let me know; we would love to have you!


VALENTINE'S DAY 
Our Valentine's Day Party will be on Thursday, February 14 in the afternoon.  Our class has decided that we would like to have a Pyjama Day.  The students can wear their pyjamas in the morning or change into them for the afternoon.  A change of clothing is a good idea.  The children can bring Valentine cards to give to each other during the party.  If you are sending cards, please make sure that everyone in the class receives a card from your child.
